History

Ever since Norex was founded nearly forty years ago, we have built up the requisite expertise and resolve to make the most of the world’s steel.

Making the most of the world’s steel has always been our guiding principle. As apprentices back in the 1960s, brothers Leif and Sture Fredriksson had witnessed how prime-steel off-cuts were simply scrapped. A waste of valuable materials and infinite potential. Potential they sought to capitalise on by looping prime steel off-cuts back into the manufacturing process. This idea, coupled with their entrepreneurial passion, led them to establish close relationships with a number of steel producers and begin trading in non-prime steel – steel that had perhaps been cut into slightly non-standard dimensions, or which had scratches or roll marks, but which was otherwise perfectly suitable for use by a large number of manufacturers worldwide.

Sture’s son David Fredriksson, CEO since 2003, and an external board of directors set about revolutionising the company and expanding its operations, implementing a series of strategic acquisitions, and introducing new services that continue to contribute to a more sustainable world today.
